Attend Citizens for Strong Schools v. FL BOE Decision

Your presence is needed at the First District Court of Appeals when the three-judge panel hands down its decision in Citizens for Strong Schools v. Florida State Board of nullEducation on July 18 at 9:00 a.m.

The court is located at 2000 Drayton Drive in Tallahassee. The lawsuit challenges the Florida State Board of Education, Florida House of Representatives, Florida Senate and the Commissioner of Education and seeks a declaration that the State of Florida is breaching its constitutional paramount duty to provide a uniform, efficient, safe, secure, and high quality system of free public schools that allows students to obtain a high quality education, as required by Article IX, section 1(a) of the Florida Constitution.

Plaintiffs also seek a declaration that the State has not provided a high quality pre-kindergarten learning opportunity and not delivered an early childhood development and education program according to professionally accepted standards, as required by Article IX, section 1(b) of the Florida Constitution. At issue is the state’s education funding formula or the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) which legislators use to determine how much money each school district gets.
