It is time to MOBILIZE!
Please help bring The League of Women Voters of Florida’s voices and actions to politicians in Tallahassee.
Florida’s Legislative Session runs from March 7 througn May 5, 2017.
We will advocate for change and make democracy work for you, for your family and neighbors, and for Florida.
We have MANY opportunities for change and COUNTLESS battles to fight this year in Florida. Your voice has never been as needed nor has the potential for change been greater than it is this year:
• Election Reform and Voter Protection–
The League is dedicated to ensuring that all eligible voters – particularly those from traditionally underrepresented or underserved communities, including first-time voters, non-college youth, new citizens, minorities, the elderly and low-income Americans – have the opportunity and the information to exercise their right to vote. It is working on the restoration of felons’ rights and the Voting Rights Act.
• Fighting for Solar Energy Rights–
We continue to tell legislators that we want solar for the “Sunshine State”. Make accessing solar energy easy and affordable. League fought for solar in 2016 with two solar amendments, successfully protecting the rights of Florida residents to own solar equipment.
• Sensible Gun Legislation–
Promote smart gun legislation. It is way past the time for our lawmakers to pass responsible firearm legislation. It is only through our collaborative efforts that the LWVFL can truly make a difference and keep Florida safe.
• The Best Education Possible For Our Youth–
Help us protect the foundation of democracy and the stepping stone for economic growth, our public school system. Public education as we know it is under attack from many sides. We must act to protect our children’s future.
• Protection of Our Land and Water Resources–
Save your mother’s life– Mother Nature. Protect Florida’s future, protect your children’s future. Clean water, clean energy, parks for everybody. Its our responsibility.
• Healthcare For All Floridians–
Congress has gold-plated health insurance for life. Shouldn’t all citizens have health insurance too? Without health, we have nothing. Without health care we risk all.
Many Floridians don’t necessarily have the time or know how to keep up with legislative policy changes or how their tax dollars are being spent. Rosy updates from their representatives can make their actions sound too good to be true—for good reason. It’s easy to fool people when they’re busy with their everyday lives.
Meanwhile, The League of Women Voters of Florida is paying attention. We won’t be fooled.
LWVFL will be standing strong and speaking loud during the 2017 Florida Legislative Session, bringing our voices and actions to Senators and Representatives in Tallahassee. We can’t do it without support from concerned citizens, caring people like you.
Your donation goes directly to the League’s work to protect and defend our democracy. Together we can ensure our elections are free, fair and accessible. We can protect our environment, reduce the influence of money in our elections, maintain fair redistricting, advocate for healthcare for all and protect women’s reproductive rights. Let’s strengthen public education, push alternate energy sources like solar, and request sensible gun and immigration legislation, along with even-handed juvenile justice measures.
